My first memories of tobacco come from my regular trips to the convenience store when I was very young. I was allowed to pick out one snack while I was there. I always looked for the candy cigarettes because they were my favorite. I didn't really care for the taste, but I liked pretending that I was smoking a cigarette. I remember wanting to be a smoker when I was old enough because I thought it looked cool and I wanted to be like some of the adults I knew.
Looking back on what my attitudes were then, I feel ashamed that I thought so highly of smoking. Now I can see that the negative consequences of tobacco use are very real. I want to live a long, healthy life, free from the restraints smoking puts on a person.
