Research has shown when a health care provider talks to a patient about their tobacco use and the benefits of quitting, the success rate is much higher. We can help you have those conversations with your patients and provide the tools to make it easier. We offer a variety of FREE resources and services to those in the healthcare field.

The fax referral program is designed to increase the number of individuals in Iowa who receive smoking cessation counseling.
Research indicates that physician's referral of patients to smoking cessation programs is associated with a significantly higher participant rate, than simply telling patients to "quit smoking". We know time with a patient is limited which is why the fax referral system is so beneficial. The fax referral system emphasizes the Ask, Advise, and Refer method. Click here for more information on AAR.
If the patient is interested in quitting, they simply fill out the form and then you or your staff faxes the form to Quitline Iowa. Quitline Iowa takes care of the rest!
Fax referral relieves the patients of the responsibility of initiating services. As the healthcare provider you will receive information and updates about your patient and their progress with Quitline.
The American Lung Association, Tobacco Control staff can come in to your office and provide a short, 15 minute training to your staff on the Fax Referral Program. We can provide your office with all the tools and resources to implement this beneficial program. Contact Us if you are interested.
